At school we learn to write
In this session sponsored by the Writing Initiatives Committee, students of ENGL/WRIT 3330 (Myths and Theories of Writing) will present an analysis of their experience in learning to write, or being taught to write, in the school system, and indicate ways in which their experience did or did not prepare them for writing in the university.
What assumptions do you have about what students learn in school? About what they bring to your university classes? Is there a gap between your expectations and their reality? If there is, how do you go about bridging it?
